TikTok Lets Users Control Their Content Experience with Manage Topics & Smart Keyword Filtering Tools

TikTok officially announced Manage Topics, which first surfaced last fall in the US. Users can customize the type of content they see on their For You Feed, choosing from over 10 options including Creative Arts, Travel, Nature, and Sports.

TikTok also introduced Smart Keyword Filtering, an AI-powered feature that limits content containing keywords or related terms (like synonyms) specified by users. Users can review these keywords and will eventually be able to select or deselect specific ones. The feature will also allow users to add up to 200 keywords and manage them in bulk.

Why It Matters: The combination of Manage Topics and Smart Keyword Filtering, along with existing features, gives users greater control over their content experience. By indicating what types of content they want to see more or less of, their For You Page will better reflect their preferences.

Smart Keyword Filtering also demonstrates how AI can enhance viewer experiences by automatically expanding user preferences to include related keywords and hashtags. This makes it easier for viewers to see less unwanted content without having to manually block every variation or synonym.
